This spring, four UGA Department of Mathematics alumni returned to campus for Industrial Mathematics Day to share insightful advice with undergraduate students at the event’s panel. Returning alumni include: Patrick Akande (PhD Mathematics `24), Jack Beasley (BS Mathematics `23, MS Business Analytics `24), Annabelle Marshall (BS Mathematics `23) and Bria Ross-Butler (BS Mathematics `23).

Jack Beasley received his B.S. in Mathematics at UGA and then went on to get his MSBA from UGA’s Terry College of Business in 2024. Beasley currently works as a Sr. Specialist Data Analysis at AT&T. Beasley emphasized the importance of connections to the students in attendance. “Connections are your best friend,” said Beasley. “You never know when an opportunity may come up—do not count out any option.”

Patrick Akande received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from UGA in 2024. He currently works as an Operation Research Analyst at the International Revenue Service (IRS). When applying for jobs, Akande mentioned that he applied to several jobs. “I applied to at least 30 jobs in the government,” said Akande. “I did most of my applications on USA jobs.”

Annabelle Marshall received her B.S. in Mathematics from UGA in 2023. Marshall is currently serving as a Product Owner for RaceTrac. When speaking to students, Marshall mentioned the connectivity of the real-world and the importance of having not just your mathematical knowledge, but soft skills. “The world is a lot more collaborative than you think,” said Marshall.

Bria Ross-Butler received her B.S. in Mathematics from UGA in 2023. She is currently serving as a Functional Analyst for Itineris. Ross-Butler spoke on the importance of stepping outside of your comfort zone as you never know where it will cause you to end up.

The Spring Industrial Mathematics Day 2025 is a reminder of the diverse opportunities here at Franklin. We are always excited to welcome alumni back to campus and look forward to what next year’s event has in store.
