Molly Stanley selected to receive national advisor award

Molly Stanley, academic advisor in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, has been selected as the 2022 Outstanding New Advisor by NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising.

Established in 1983, the NACADA Global Awards Program for Academic Advising honors individuals and institutions making a significant impact on academic advising. NACADA represents and advocates for academic advising and advisors in higher education.

In 2021-22 Stanley won both the Franklin College Outstanding Advisor Award, a college-wide award for advising excellence, and the UGA Outstanding New Advisor Award, a campus-wide award for advising excellence given to one recipient with no more than three years of advising experience. As the recipient of the UGA Outstanding New Advisor Award, Stanley was the UGA nominee for the NACADA award. Her award will be presented in a ceremony at the NACADA Conference in Portland, OR this October.

“I am truly honored to receive the 2022 NACADA Outstanding New Advisor Award,” Stanley said. “The students in the Hodgson School of Music are wonderful and make my role as their advisor incredibly rewarding. I consider myself very fortunate and extend my heartfelt gratitude to Diane Miller, Greg Kline, and the Franklin College Office of Student Academic Services team. The achievement also recognizes this special community of colleagues, who take special care to support each other. For this I am deeply appreciative.” 

Stanley advises more than 300 students in six music majors and two minors in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, and has created a variety of innovative programs to support and retain Music students.

“The NACADA Outstanding New Advisor Award recognizes excellence in advising among advisors who have been in the profession for fewer than three years. Molly’s mastery of both the art and science of academic advising at this early stage of her career is exceptional,” said Diane Miller, director of the Franklin College Office of Student Academic Services. “Her compassion, understanding, and responsiveness have earned her the trust and admiration of her students, colleagues, and supervisors alike. Molly encourages her students’ goals and dreams, cares for their physical and emotional well-being, and is genuinely invested in their academic success and their lives. She is a true asset to the university and this award highlights the difference she has made and continues to make in so many students’ lives.”
