African Perspectives at 20

WUGA FM and the campus community celebrate 20 years of the station's longest-running weekly show, African Perspectives, this evening at the Foundry with a special broadcast production event:

Please join WUGA as we celebrate our longest-running local program, African Perspectives. The 20th Anniversary celebration will be held at The Foundry in Athens on Monday, November 13. Akinloye Ojo will host a special production of the program, which will be broadcast at a later date. Dance to the African rhythms, with guest performances by UGA African Students Union dancers, the African Fellowship of the Church of Nations choir, and Unitarian Universalists’ Palms of Fire drumming group. Continue dancing after the show for a $100 prize dance contest with three judges using a wild card song.

Dr. Ojo, associate professor of Comparative Literature and director of the African Studies Institute, is the show's mastermind and producer who has brought the richness of music, news and interviews about Africa to our community on a regular basis. Local programming on this level is a rarity and efforts by Ojo and the station to share the language and culture of the African continent benefits and educates a grateful audience of listeners.
