Hodgson Wind Ensemble presents "American Guernica" Oct. 6

The composition tries to capture that moment: its precursor, the act itself and its wake. The inscription on the score reads, “for Carol, Addie Mae, Cynthia, and Denise; the four girls ages 14, 14, 14, and 11, killed at the 16th Street Baptist Church.”

The HWE and other ensembles in the school of music continue to incorporate innovative programming to win over new audiences. The repertoire here is first-rate, and inviting audience members onstage and to engage with the music via the Twitter gallery are efforts to be commended. But the high-level artistry of our student and faculty performers remains the focus. Congratulations to Dr. Johnston Turner and the entire ensemble on this ambitious and timely presentation. Hodgson Concert Hall on Thursday, October 6, at 8 p.m.
