CORE Contemporary and Aerial Dance Concert

Dance Building, New Dance Theatre

The UGA department of dance CORE Concert Contemporary and Aerial Dance Company will present its annual 2017 season performance February 22-25 at 8 p.m. at the New Dance Theatre in the dance building. The company will premiere “A World of Difference,” a sixty-five minute nonstop aerial dance and multimedia performance.

The concert consists of juxtaposed abstract and dramatic sequences immersed in a surreal aural and visual landscape created through interactive film animation. Performers will exhibit technical aerial abilities on the silks, slings, lyra, trapeze and bungee.

The evening’s performance explores themes about our connections to the environment of which we live, and derives from research, independent films and social media contributing to the increasing global awareness of sustainability. The performance hopes to further inspire positive choices in our day-to-day living.

An experimental company by nature, this creative research lab often engages in collaboration with scientists, technicians and artists to create the annual program. This year’s performance includes collaboration with several guest performers.

“We bring together UGA student artists who will demonstrate extraordinary aerial dance skills,” said Bala Sarasvati, CORE artistic director and Jane Willson Professor in the Arts. “These extremely committed artists bring a unique set of talents to the arts at UGA. In addition, the technical skills of our collaborators greatly enhance the overall show. We are pleased to bring this level of production to the department of dance stage.”

CORE Concert Dance Company featured performing members are: Mitzi Anderson, Francesca Mokry, Rebecca Patsalos, Morgan Rossi and Jenn Vigh.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to train and perform as a part of the fierce five artistic athletes of the 2017 CORE Concert Contemporary and Aerial Dance Company season,” said Vigh.

Guest performers include Michael Ball, a CORE company alum; Nicholas Lindell, a violinist from the UGA School of Music; Alex Ozbilen, a former competitive gymnast; and Ethan and Hazel Hogan, experienced actors from Athens Little Playhouse.
